Professional Development

Mission Gorge Flood 02-23-2005The Association hosts one major Conference annually, which offers 12 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) for Certified Floodplain Managers (CFM). The conferences provide members an opportunity to present and discuss technical papers on various aspects of floodplain management as well as attend presentations by state and federal officials concerning their programs. The conferences also provide an opportunity for members to exchange information with their counterparts, learn about new products and services from vendor displays, and network with other floodplain management professionals.

ASFPM has established a national program for professional certification of floodplain managers. The program recognizes continuing education and professional development that enhance the knowledge and performance of local, state, federal, and private-sector floodplain managers. This certification program will lay the foundation for ensuring that highly qualified individuals are available to meet the challenge of breaking the damage cycle and stopping its negative drain on the nation’s human, financial, and natural resources.
