Since inception, the Association has welcomed everyone interested in floodplain management regardless of their location, employment, or whether their special interest is in structural measures, nonstructural measures, environmental issues, legislation, policy, or some other aspect of floodplain management. The members of the Association represent many federal, state, and local agencies as well as private firms. Annual Conferences
FMA hosts one major conference annually. Each conference provides members an opportunity to present and discuss technical papers on various aspects of floodplain management as well as attend presentations by state and federal officials concerning their programs. The conferences also provide an opportunity for members to exchange information with their counterparts, learn about new products and services from vendor displays, and network with other floodplain management professionals.
Specialty Symposiums
FMA sponsors technical specialty symposiums, from time to time, on the latest technical and policy issues in floodplain management. Additionally, FMA sponsors two symposiums on a regular basis sharing technical information about flooding, hydrology, and other areas of interest to our members. Professional Training Workshops
A number of workshops for managers, engineers and planners are offered each year, such as HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS training, Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) workshop and exam, and many others. Attendees receive CEC credits toward their CFM certification.
